Pretty Press-on Nails Without Breaking Bank

I have always been obsessed with nail polish. Manicures, nail art, and gel polish have always fascinated me. Another thing I had to give up during the pandemic were my occasional trips to the nail salon. Not a big deal, of course, I couldn’t really paint my nails because of the germs and the virus. Long nails were out. Short, clean, and polished nails are in.

It was about 2021 when I purchased my first set of press-ons from Shein pa. I then bought some from Shopee and from then, I frequented using them because they’re low-maintenance and they were so easy to use. I loved the idea that you could just stick them on with either glue or strong-ass tape, and you’d be set. When you’re going to an event or just want to cover your not-so-pretty-nails, you can just pop them on and then remove them later.

The problem with these sets were their sizes. I have big nails and sometimes the sets are so off with the sizing that they’re in between. Sometimes, they don’t look so pretty.

Then I came across custom press-on nails by Solklaris. The woman behind the press-ons is Yvonne Venenoso, a nursing student who created these nails part-time. I found her on Instagram and Facebook marketplace while looking for nails for an event. I found that she customized nails and had a library of inspiration that clients could choose from.

Being the arte girl I am, I went on ahead asked her a bunch of questions regarding the nails, the fit, the designs, customization, and how to effectively use them. I was so happy that she replied to me with equal enthusiasm and I was able to decide on 6 pieces for myself and 1 for my friend. Each set cost around upwards of 160 pesos. That’s a 20-piece set that is fit for your actual nails. Sulit, diba?

I loved the sets so much I ordered a second time. I got so many compliments and some even believed they were my own nails, just gel. Nope, sticker tabs and fake nails, my friend. That’s the secret.

The best thing about these sets is that they last so long. I used the glue provided and it usually lasts me 5 days and that’s with typing, washing dishes, soaking, washing clothes na ha. If you don’t do much and have events lined up, this is an easy fix. No need to get your nails super damaged with gel polish. No need to get the yellowing of your nails when you’ve been using too much polish. Just pop a sticker on and you’ll get pretty nails.

If you’re interested, message Sol Klaris to book a slot and start a conversation about the design you have in mind. So far, she matches the pegs I’ve sent her. Best part about it is it’s so sulit. Php 160-260 press-ons? Count me in!

Iñaki Torres’ Media Launch

Last July 14, 2022, we attended model, actor, performer, host, social media influencer, brand ambassador, Iñaki Torres’ media launch with Deese Dela Beaute in Citymall in Tagum City.

The star from the different online series My Day, My Toxic Lover, and Worth the Wait, also makes sure to support and promote local businesses in the country. Despite being based in Luzon, Iñaki Torres makes it a point to support businesses in the Davao Region. He currently supports Déese dela Beauté, Kaon by Beauté Kitchen, Beauténook by Beautéderm, Fabularized Smile by Dr. Chad Fabular, and AA Edquila Builders. He looks forward to launching his projects: Forever Yours and Peyri Teyl, a film directed by Joel Lamangan. The media launch was attended by a variety of guests coming from the media, friends, and of course, fans.

Iñaki Torres was joined by his manager, Carlo Morris Galang. Carlo morris Galang is a pageant king, former actor, and is now the president of Misters of Filipinas, one of the premier pageants for men in the country. He is also the president of Prime Events Production Philippines Foundation, Inc.

Joem and I actually traveled to Tagum and attended the event and were treated to a “pamper session” at the wellness center and had a little foot spa while we waited for the event to start. We also met Ms. Nellie Lariosa-Edquila and were inspired by her passion to create opportunities for people. Deese dela Beaute’s advocacy is to help people realize that self-care is also self-love and that it also helps confidence and that taking breaks is not bad. Deese also aims to be the go-to center for aesthetic, beauty and wellness needs and wants to expand and establish branches in different regions in the Philippines.

TMI Tuesday: Trying Out A Period Cup and Your Period Cup Questions Answered!

Hey, ladies!

If you’ve followed my blog since day 1, you would know that I’m someone who looks to improve my impact in the world. Right now, the world seems more chaotic than it usually is; there’s a pandemic, there are explosions and flash floods throughout the world.

It was in 2017 that I tried incorporating routines/habits that help reduce my waste production. Things like bringing my own disposable utensils and straws to opting for secondhand/thrifted clothes are examples of the ways I’ve tried getting into the sustainable lifestyle. Granted, there are many ways that I still can grow towards a zero-lifestyle but it’s still progress.

One of the ways women could reduce their waste is through opting for choices that don’t have plastic. Currently, feminine hygiene products like pads, tampons and liners are a large contributor to the world’s landfills.

This is where sustainable options like reusable cloth pads and menstrual cups come in. Yes, you read that right. Reusable. Back when women didn’t have fancy pads or tampons, they used cloth as pads to soak up their periods. They had to clean up the pads and use them the next day.

Reusable pads today are no different. However, they have evolved into a lot more specific product line… such as period panties.

When we’re talking about a period or menstrual cup, however, it might seem intimidating. CUP? Inside your vag? Yikes, right? Wrong!

As it turns out, period cups are actually smaller than you’d imagine and they basically form a suction around the vagina’s walls to create a vacuum. This, in turn, lets the cup stay in place and allows for maximum period catching.

In the US, the period cup has often been talked about and widely used. In the Philippines, let alone Davao, it’s very rare. We’re a country that opts for pads because tampons are seen as tampering with women’s virginity.

However, the past year has proven that a lot more Filipinas are slowly opting for sustainable options in their feminine products. A rise in sustainable options was noted in the past two years.

Last week, my friend Sam, who owns a local shop called Lifestyle by Bag Outlet Davao, reached out to me and asked me to review one of the new products she’s selling: Aunt Flo Ph‘s Period Cup.

I’ll be honest, I personally felt intimidated by the cups. My areas of concern were:

  1. How do you put it in????
  2. How do you take it out?
  3. Do you pee/poo with it inside?

I found the answers to these questions not long after I received the cup she sent me.

Here’s what I got in her package:

  1. An instruction card
  2. A collapsible sterilizer
  3. The Auntflo Period Cup
  4. A cotton pouch

The first thing I thought about the package was how adorable it is! People who know me would say that I’m a fan of pink and they wouldn’t be wrong. I love the light pink theme Auntflo has. It’s so girly!

The idea of a collapsible sterilizer is so efficient because ideally, if there wasn’t a pandemic, you could just bring your sterilizer along and be able to use it for changing anytime.

The second thing I immediately realized is how big the cup seems like. It seems a tad to big for me and I was kind of scared of how to put it in. This immediately resulted in me going on Youtube, looking for tutorials, reviews and even guides on how to put it in.

I rewatched the first video I watched about menstrual cups by Safiya Nygaard and looked through Youtube. I found the Youtube page for Put a Cup in It and was impressed by how thorough they explained period cups. I highly recommend that anyone who decides to try period cups watch their videos.

I watched Put A Cup In It’s Menstrual Cups Folds video and tried relaxing as I thought about how to do it. According to the instructions card, the first thing you should do before and after you use the Aunt Flo period cup is to wash it with mild soap and water, then put it in boiling water for 3-5 minutes.

Afterwhich, I went to the bathroom and tried to put it in. It was the second night of my period and I was having a relatively heavy flow. So, here’s what happened:

I went in the bathroom at around 10:45, brought my phone and watched a couple more Youtube videos from Put A Cup In It. I then washed my hands with my Betadine Skin Cleanser and proceeded to try to put it in.

Image from Google

I used the punch-in fold. This is type of fold is when you use your index finger to punch in the wall of a cup and make a sort of triangle with it. It’s one of the most common folds since it creates the smallest diameter.

After watching the various videos on Youtube and reading about period cups, I was aware that #MakingtheSwitch had a large learning curve. According to most of the videos I watched, it usually took more than 3 menstrual cycles to get the hang of using a period cup. Yup, more than three cycles.

Still, the process of putting it in was an ordeal that slightly shocked me. Hahaha. It was an interesting process because once inserted, you’re supposed to feel around the base of the cup to make sure that it’s inserted properly. You should allegedly feel a slight pop, indicating that the cup has unfurled inside you.

At around 11:10, I was done. I got it in properly, without my overthinking head second-guessing the position or leaks. I proceeded with my nightly routine and tried to go to bed.

The first thing I noticed was how weird the stem felt. I think it was long for me because it was the only thing I could feel. I tried looking it up and learned that most users cut the stem. I wasn’t ready for that kind of commitment because I was too concerned with how I would get it out if I did that. I decided I could do that when I’m more confident with it.

An hour later,

I woke up to feeling like I had to poops. I went to the bathroom and thought about taking it out because according to my research, you could leave it in but you could also take it out. It all depends on how you felt about it.

Because I was trying it out, I decided to keep it in. I didn’t feel the cup shift or anything. I wasn’t really worried about it. I even checked for leaks and there weren’t any. (I wore a pantyliner just in case).

I shortly went to bed after and woke up a couple of hours later. When I wear pads, I usually have mini-panic attacks because when you get up in the morning and you have a heavy flow, it sort of gushes out and I freak for my pad and my clothes. Because of what I was used to, I thought that my period cup had leaks or might overflow because of the number of hours it took for me to take it out.

I walked briskly to the bathroom and proceeded to realize that:

  1. IT DID NOT LEAK!
  2. I checked and took it out and saw how much blood it caught and I have to say, it’s amazing what this cup can do.

I then waited a while and sterilized the cup again and proceeded to put it in again. I decided that I would trim the stem that night. I proceeded to wear the cup the entire day and was honestly surprised with the results!

Ideally, the cup can hold up to 12 hours worth of blood before leaking out. I wore the cup for over 10 hours and I didn’t leak once! Another positive thing about the cups are the fact that you can’t feel anything once they’re inside. It’s like you’re not on your period at all. It’s amazing, guys.

Of course, the thing that bothered me with the cup is the stem, which is relatively an error of mine because I chose to keep it long but other than that, I think I could use period cups on my heavy days. The fact that I can wear it overnight and not worry about leaks is 100% a great selling point already. The idea that I could be saving a ton of money from spending on pads and liners is also another plus. The greatest pro in this list would have to be the reduction in the waste I produce! Yay!

Overall, my experience with the Aunt Flo period cup made me know myself better, let me reduce my waste, and introduced me to a new aspect of sustainability.

Thank you, Sam, for sending these over!

If you’re from Davao and want some Aunt Flo period cups for yourselves, make sure to follow Lifestyle by Bag Outlet Davao! They also have an Instagram. Follow that, too!

The Loop: Community Trade Fair and Sustainable Living

I think this is what sets our generation apart from the previous generation: we grew up in the midst of environmental destruction and as grown ups, we experience the consequences of that destruction: climate change, mass extinction, & water scarcity. We’re aware of the effects of pollution and deforestation and it’s something we want to address. Then came the rise of the sustainability movement.

This article was published on Sunstar Davao’s February 24, 2020 issue. To read about #AllYouNeedToKnow, follow Sunstar Davao on Facebook or visit their website here.

One of the first things I vividly remember about saving the environment is a special features cut in one of our Shrek DVDs. It was a reminder to conserve water by turning off faucets when they aren’t in use and when you’re brushing your teeth. After watching that video, I proceeded to take note of all the times I let the faucet run while I brushed my teeth and how much of it is wasted.

Sustainability or living sustainably is a movement that is very evident in social media today. Metal straws, cute canvas bags, charcoal toothbrushes are only a minuscule example of the size of this movement. Ideally, sustainable living is thought to be a solution to pollution in a sense that consumers buy less and make use of what they already have. This is the avoidance of the depletion of natural resources in order to maintain an ecological balance.

This, however, is not always the case. Not long after the movement was introduced, companies and different brands jumped on the bandwagon and mass-produced the very things that were aimed to be sustainable, defeating the idea of sustainable living entirely. The entire lifestyle banked on the fact that human beings need to reduce their carbon footprint by opting for choices that consume less energy, less plastic, and produce less waste.

There are people, however, who practice sustainable living and aim towards echoing the movement to the majority. This is found in the rise of many Zero-waste groceries and stores. Davao is surprisingly one of the cities that is slowly adapting to this movement. Just recently, the city talked about reducing the use of single-use plastic. Davao’s first zero-waste grocery, Croft Bulk Store, opened its second branch just last year. The sustainability movement surely isn’t lost in Davaoeños as we find ways of living sustainably and this is what brings us to the main topic of this article, The Loop Community Trade Fair.

71532195_118327979561045_6924376528360833024_n-2

The Loop started as an idea between three friends who wanted to get rid of their old clothes and who simply wanted to have a big garage sale. The three friends were Alyssa Capuno, the owner of Mari Yoga Studio, Denise Guirgen, the founder of Masetera.ph, and LA Subido, a Fusion Dance Crew founding member. They gathered and discussed how they could organize a big garage sale and gradually, more of their friends came in and pitched products they could sell. Not long after, the three girls planning a garage sale grew to become a bazaar with sixteen tenants in October 2019. This was the first Loop Community Trade Fair.

The fair has since hosted two more events in December 2019 and February 2020, respectively. The Loop definitely has grown bigger and even more sustainable, inviting tenants and consumers who vary in terms of the level of living sustainably. Most products in the fair are eco-friendly, organic and of course, sustainable.

I first attended the Loop Community Trade Fair in December 2019 and I came up with quite a haul. The things I were drawn to were the clothes!  I am a proud supporter of ukay finds and the fair offers their own share of secondhand clothes. Unlike the traditional ukay, the clothes found in the fair are clean, laundered and I would say, better. This is due to the fact that you actually know who the clothes belonged to and some even tell you stories behind them!

IMG_0069
My outfit here is purely thrifted, except for the bag and the jeans. The black sparkly top and necklace came from the Loop!

What most people don’t realize is that the clothes we purchase from large-scale companies who mass produce clothes are one of the World’s biggest contributors to plastic in the ocean. This is due to the number of microfibers and microplastics there are in the clothes they produce. While this is the sad truth, it is important to note that some name brands are actually moving toward sustainable fashion, a movement that advocates less waste.

The pieces I purchased in the Loop fair were the following: a sparkly black top for Php 100, a silk sleeveless top for Php 50, two name-brand pants for Php 100 each, and a loose, linen navy blue top that cost Php 50. I also picked up some jackets for only Php 150 and 300, respectively. These items were all in great condition and smelled great!

Another set of things I purchased were jewelry. I was a fan of those elaborate necklaces everyone seemed to wear in the mid-2000s. Call it an influence from Gossip Girl, if you will. I was surprised to find three statement necklaces for only Php 50.00 each! They also showed me a pair of wooden, rustic earrings that cost only a mere Php 20.00! Yup, you read that right!

I not only lessened my carbon footprint, but saved a ton of money by purchasing secondhand items. If you think about it, if I purchased all of these items at the mall or at a name brand branch, I would’ve most likely spent over Php 6,000.00. At the Loop Community Trade Fair, I only spent a mere Php 1,070 for all of the 11 items! Crazy, right? I guess the old saying is true, “one man’s trash is another one’s treasure.”

IMG_1309
These are the pieces I purchased at the loop; all three necklaces cost only Php 50.00 each and the earrings were only Php 20.00!

The second Loop Fair I attended was the most recent and largest one to date, the February 2020 one. A lot of people attended the event with their kids, who had fun picking out old toys and clothes. I purchased a lot more sustainable and eco-friendly goods this time. I got detergent, dishwashing soap and fabric conditioner from Eco’s Refillery. I also received goods from Himas Essentials and am trying to make the shift from name-brand deodorant to organic deodorant. I also got some lip scrubs, body scrubs, and an insect repellent from Reset.ph.

Last but definitely not the least, Loop Community Trade Fair offers delicious and interesting food and drinks. You’ll probably never get hungry strolling about the fair with Fabian’s Tacos. They offered vegan tacos in the recent fair and also sell jars of salsa and chips for only Php 100.00. Sulit!

My friend who owns Desserts by Kay  also joined the last bazaar and said the outcome was great!  She sold all sorts of pastries ranging from brownies, revel bars, cookies, and even mookies! Her sugar cookies were the ones that were a crowd favorite, though!

IMG_1177

Overall, community fairs and bazaars like The Loop are perfect for communities like Davao City. We’re a large city that is slowly adapting to the change in lifestyle. According to Alyssa Capuno, we’re the first generation to experience the effects of climate change and we’re the only generation to stop or even minimize its impact in the future. Our world needs to realize that all our resources are finite and the only way we can keep using these resources in the future generation is to minimize our current usage.

She emphasized that we don’t need to buy new things but rather, reuse, recycle, and even upcycle. We can opt to avoid single-use products and choose reusable ones because they are of higher quality and are cost-efficient, too. Living sustainably doesn’t just reduce waste production, but also lessens the cost of living. Our world has become used to convenience and this convenience comes at a cost. What earlier generations probably didn’t expect is how the Earth can charge these costs.

The Loop Community Trade Fair is seen as an opportunity to educate Davaoeños on how to live sustainably and I think is the perfect way to address climate change in our own little way. Some people would argue that one change wouldn’t even make a comparable difference in the Earth’s state today but the fact is these small changes can echo throughout the community and it can clearly be seen in the growth of the people who opt for sustainable choices. Let’s make small changes today! The next Loop Fair is scheduled on April 2020, and is promised to be even bigger. See you there!

They also sell stickers at The Loop! These sticker sets came from @stellartx.davao on Instagram. Cute, right?

Skin 911 Opens Two New Branches in Mindanao

One of the things I’m pretty sure about myself is that I’m maarte— to the point that I found myself enjoying treating myself every now & then. When I began working, I often treated myself to bi-monthly nail salon appointments. Just recently, I’ve discovered the art of eyelash perming. Since then, I’ve  found myself looking into things that pamper myself because it simply makes me feel good about myself.

Skin911 Facial & Slimming Centre does just that. It makes you feel better about yourself by offering services that enhance your beauty: from facials to laser hair removal. The best thing about them is the fact that they offer their services at a cost that wouldn’t cost an arm & a leg. They offer affordable services that still ensure the effects of each treatment.

Last Tuesday, October 8, 2019, they opened their third branch in Davao in Ma-a, making affordable & effective beauty more accessible to Davaoeños. The new branch is located in the second floor of MMV Building in Ma-a road, Davao City.

This October they’re holding a 50% Discount promo on all their services & even have their Facial with Diamond Peel for just 198 pesos.

Skin 911 President & CEO Ms. Eleanor Velasco & Ma-a Branch Franchisee Janna Graziella Amaga welcomed their guests with a short program expressing their gratitude & well wishes for the new branch.

Afterwhich, we had a small press conference and they talked about Skin911’s story, their respective advocacies & their future plans for the branch. Ms. Amaga talked about the three reasons why she chose to franchise Skin911. The first reason was the fact that she loves pampering herself. The second reason is that she was impressed by Skin911’s Lanang branch & believed in Skin911’s business. The third reason was that she loved the idea of owning her own skincare business & she advocates to provide jobs for women. She also stated that she believes that Davao City has proven itself to be a market that was interested in taking care of themselves as evidenced by the businesses opening lately.

President & CEO Ms. Eleanor Velasco further talked about how Skin911 advocates to give accessible and affordable beauty services to everyone. She also advocates to give jobs for women and even has a training center for Skin911. She herself trains the staff & stated that even the women who have no experience with skincare have been welcomed. She also stated her plans to establish at least 10 branches in the Davao Region since the market is booming.

The Skin911 Facial & Slimming Centre Ma-a branch is open from 10 AM-9 PM from Monday to Saturday & 10 AM- 6 PM on Sundays.

Skin911 Facial & Slimming Centre certainly isn’t slowing down. Just a couple of after the Ma-a Branch opening, they opened their Tagum Branch. The Tagum Branch is the first branch in Davao del Norte. It is franchised by the partnership of Lanang Branch franchisee Ms. Jee Ayuste & Dr. Claire Canda.

When asked about their reason why they decided to franchise in Tagum, Dr. Canda & Ms. Ayuste mentioned that the Tagumeños are a viable market. Dr. Canda herself was impressed by the idea of Skin911 & met Ms. Jee at her Lanang Branch. She was a regular customer & stated that the Tagumeños lifestyle is certainly evolving. She chose to partner up with Ms. Ayuste since she still has her own private practice in Ophthalmology and believes that she needs the guidance.

Skin911 Facial & Slimming Centre Tagum Branch also offers their Pink October Promos wherein there is a 50% discount in most of their services.

The company has clearly grown from its humble three-bed clinic in Banilad, Cebu nearly 13 years ago. At present, Skin911 Facial & Slimming Centre has 21 branches located in Davao, Cebu, Bohol, Dumaguete, Butuan, Koronadal, Banawe & Quezon City.

Because of their quality services & well-trained staff (they also have a training center for all their staff), they have received more than 40 awards. The most recent one is the Philippine Social Media Star Awards & the Best Choice Awards 2019.

For more updates & information, follow Skin911 Facial & Slimming Centre on Facebook & @Skin911 on Instagram.

January & February 2019 Beauty Favorites

Hello, hello, readers!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted something a little personal so here I am typing out my 2019 favorites. It’s something I’ve wanted to do but it seemed kind of off to begin a monthly favorites post in the middle of the year. So here’s one of my resolutions for 2019: consistently post a monthly favorites blog and maybe vlog.

I intend to keep it!!!

So I’ll break it down to beauty products, tech products/ apps, and lifestyle products.

So since it is a favorite post, I’ll only be writing about products I’ve consistently used and loved from the beginning of the year to the things I’ve discovered along the way.

BEAUTY PRODUCTS:

  1. Simple Micellar Water– I absolutely love this skincare brand!  I love their Micellar water because it’s light and it removes even the thickest and most stubborn make-up (I’m looking at you, Vice Cosmetics & Colourpop.) It’s something I use before putting on make-up and before I wash my face. It gently removes all the product from my skin and lets my skin breathe and honestly, I haven’t found any product that does it that fast. I also love how little you have to put in a cotton ball for it to work. I’m only on my first bottle this year and it hasn’t even been halved or quartered yet.micellar water 400ml
  2. Nyx’s Lid Lingerie– 2018 is the year I experimented with eyeshadow and make-up. The Lid Lingerie was my first palette, I bought it in 2017 but only used it in 2018. I love the terracotta and nude shades and have been using it until November this year. cf80ae63c857a55f30ba28704eccef96
  3. Colourpop’s Sol palette- Ugh, my weakness is a terracotta-coral color palette. It just looks so goooood and cute. It’s a summer palette but I only received it this November and found it as my new favorite. Don’t get me wrong—— Bretman’s Lit palette is amazing and I absolutely love the shades periodt & macchiatto but SOL is just so pretty!
  4. Nyx’s Lip Lingerie in the shade Cabaret Show- I love nude shades and Cabaret Show brings that perfect mix of mauve and nude. It always makes my skin look healthier and glowing, if that makes sense. NXY Lip Lingerie in Cabaret Show
  5. Sunnies Face Fluffmatte in Nudist-  I swear I discovered so much love for nude shades this year. Pinks and reds somehow make me look older kasi. Anyway, NUDIST is an everyday, MLBB shade that lets me wear even the boldest eyeshadow colors and not look too eighties. I love the fluffmatte series because of how light it is. I’ve always loved matte lipsticks and have tried and collected a variety. One thing I always noticed is how thick and sticky the lipsticks usually are, especially if they’re liquid. The sticks, however, always feel thick and usually, they get removed pretty fast. Fluffmatte, however, is incredibly lightweight and incredibly easy to wear. I also love the fact that it can act multi-purpose. I sometimes use it on my eyelids and I use the girl crush shade for my cheeks.
  6. Sunnies Face Glowboss in Hey Girl-  I love this highligher so much you have no idea. I am not one to put on much make-up and I honestly get so intimidated by contour and highlight but 2018 was a year of self-discovery and with it came my discovery of how much I like highlight. It makes me look so healthy and glowy. The glitters are kind of an off but it still depends on how much you put on.
  7. Miniso’s cotton pads- In order to put on and take out make-up, I need pads to clean up my face. Miniso’s pads are nice because they have variety in it. One row comes with little bumps (?) that (according to the diagram) aid in removing nailpolish while the other has he regular thin, white ones. I like it because for Php 119, you get over 200 pads or more and it really lasts even if I use them thrice a day. d2eff0a0306cb2c9dd1935bba790ea39
  8. St. Ives’ Oatmeal Gentle Smoothing Scrub & Mask– I was in the sixth grade when I first tried a product from St. Ives and I already knew it was a brand I was going to trust. It was their apricot scrub and almost immediately after trying it, I felt my skin feeling absolutely refreshed and clean. Their new Oatmeal Gentle Smoothing Scrub and Mask is no different. I came across this product during SM Department Store’s Great three-day sale and I’m totally glad I bought it. Because it exfoliates, I only use it twice a week and it makes my skin feel super clean.

Beautéderm Ambassador Launch at Hijo Plantation Villa

When it comes to skincare, I’m pretty picky and honestly brand-conscious. I’d rather spend money on known brands than risk my skin over something cheap. However, being invited to Beautéderm launch made me question my own routine.

Beautéderm is a cosmetics and skincare line created by businesswoman Rhea Tan in 2009 in Angeles, Pampanga. The brand boasts of natural ingredients fit for Filipino skin— a breath of fresh air from the common western skincare brands Filipinos often see advertised.

Although it was born in Luzon, Beautéderm was brought to Mindanao by Kharnelia Lariosa-Edquila in 2012. While giving out her speech, she mentioned women empowerment numerous times. She expressed her mission in empowering mothers and women nationwide. She emphasized the significance of taking care of oneself while also enhancing inner beauty.

Beautéderm launched ambassadors from different fields. Carly Jane L. Chua, Mary Joy De Castro, Korina Dayan B. Sawan, Claudine Alyssandra Verga, & Johanne Bernice Wong from Pageantry.

Professionals Dr. Chad Fabular, Dr. Camille Chantal D. Gallardo, Leo Revita, Michelle Robin & Datu Nikko Sinsuat Abdul were also introduced as ambassadors.

Empowered women Anne Feo, Sholai S. Lim and Vice Governor Mei Ling M. Quezon were also introduced as Beautéderm Ambassadors for Mindanao.

The launch talked about the importance of self-care while also advocating women empowerment. The interesting thing about Beautéderm is its advocacy. Most beauty brands simply promote their products; Ms. Nellie promotes her advocacy through her products. For more details about Beautéderm Mindanao, you can check out their page here.

Beautéderm also gave us a set of products to try. So check out my next few blog posts for my Skincare Routine & my Beautéderm try!

Korean Sheet Masks and E.L.F. Lippies

I’ve always considered myself arte. I’d been the little girl who chose princesses and castles over restaurants and toy-cooking. I remember having one of those cute and extremely extravagant (for a 5 or 6 year old) make-up treasure chests. It had lipsticks of different colors (I loved the blue one),  glittery eyeshadow and various iridescent blushes. However, all that obsession eventually became books and music. I’d rather spend on books than clothes, tbh.

Still, when I heard about Korean sheet masks, I knew I had to try them. They looked so rejuvenating and relaxing to wear! So I set out and looked for the most budget-friendly ones in the market. I found that Etude has a whole section of sheet masks to choose from and they had specific masks for specific purposes. For example, their masks for moisturizing differ from the masks that supposedly brighten your complexion.

My friend Chutie and I looked through their section and decided to try the following: The Hyaluronic Acid masks, The Strawberry, and the Lemon masks. After buying them, we spent a night trying them on. If you want to watch us struggle, you can check out our vlog on Nextbeat here. Needless to say, we had fun. The Lemon and Strawberry masks were amazing and left our faces feeling fresh and, true to their purpose, rejuvenated. The Hyaluronic masks are great for moisturizing. I sometimes get really dry skin and these masks have always made me feel at least 75% better.

Now, I also received an E.L.F. lip kit and we also tried them. I don’t have photos or a video stream because it kind of ended up messy (lol). One thing I noticed about these products is how shiny and glossy they leave your lips looking. I’m into matte finishes and they just didn’t work for me. The colors are amazing, though! They also last long. My only concern remains to be the glitter they had. By the end of it, I realized how much of a Nyx Soft Matte Lip-Girl I am. (I love Nyx!!!)

Anyway, that’s it for the make-up haul I got. I think I learned a lot from these try-outs and swatches. If you’re into the whole glossy look, e.l.f. lippies are definitely for you.
