Rev Up Your Adventure: A Closer Look at Mitsubishi Motors Philippines’ Go Beyond Limits Tour in Davao City

One of things I look forward to when checking out a new car is testing out its features. Last March 8-10, 2024, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) took the scenic route to celebrate Araw ng Dabaw with an exhilarating 3-day event – the Go Beyond Limits Tour in Davao City.

Attendees were treated to an unforgettable experience; from meeting their favorite social media celebrities to experiencing the unparalleled capabilities of the All-New Mitsubishi Triton.

Here’s What I Liked About The All-New Mitsubishi Triton:

1. Classic Pickup Aesthetic: Mitsubishi’s newest pickup, the Triton, boasts a classic, boxy exterior that screams rugged and adventure-friendly. This isn’t just a pretty face – it’s a workhorse designed for the challenges of both urban and off-road landscapes. It’s not just about looking good; it’s about getting the job done.

2. Spacious Interior: Step inside the Triton, and you’ll find a surprisingly spacious interior. While some pickup trucks may have a massive exterior but feels cramped within, the Triton offers ample legroom, providing a comfortable ride for both the driver and his/her passengers.

3. Top-Notch Tech: Not pretending to be an expert here, but the Triton’s tech features are too interesting not to mention: a large display screen, an efficient 360 camera, and a range of top-notch features make this pickup a technological marvel. And the best part? It doesn’t cost what you’d expect it to with pricing ranging from 1.1M to 1.9M.

4. Test-Drive Adventure: This wasn’t your average test drive – it was an adventure course. From turn maneuvers to testing traction control, tackling moguls, climbing hills, and assessing approach and departure angles, the Triton’s capabilities were put to the test. It wasn’t just about driving; it was about experiencing the Triton’s true capabilities. And while I would have loved to test this baby off-road or on an actual roadtrip, the course prepared by Mitsubishi at SM Lanang Premier did the job.

5. All-Inclusive Hospitality: The Go Beyond Limits Tour at SM Lanang Premier was not just about test drives; it was an event for car enthusiasts, prospective buyers, and fans. The atrium housed an impressive display, while the outdoor test drive track provided an adrenaline-pumping experience. After the drive, participants were treated to a complimentary drink and could indulge in games at the Taralets Pinas booth. With over 20 knowledgeable agents on-site, getting to know the cars and possibly reserving one became an even more enjoyable experience.

A Fusion of Adventure and Culture:

The Go Beyond Limits Tour wasn’t just about cars; it was a celebration of exploration and discovery. The Taralets Pinas! campaign, a nationwide initiative by MMPC, encourages Filipinos to rediscover the hidden gems of the Philippines. It’s a perfect match with the All-New Mitsubishi Triton, a vehicle designed to empower drivers to explore the diverse landscapes and rich cultures of the country.

Meet the Faces of Adventure:

Adding a touch of star power to the event, the Bisaya Squad, Bb. Pilipinas International 2022 Nicole Borromeo, Chito Samontina, Boy Pimple, and Bite King were present, sharing the excitement and celebrating the joy of the open road.

Mitsubishi Motors Philippines is not just selling cars; they’re selling experiences.

The Go Beyond Limits Tour has set a new standard, proving that the journey is just as important as the destination. So, rev up your adventure, embrace the thrill, and let Mitsubishi Motors Philippines take you beyond limits!

GrabCar’s Launch in Davao to Revolutionize Mindanao’s Transportation Landscape

Davao City, October 13, 2023 -It was a cloudy day in DusitD2 Davao when the country’s leading ride-hailing app was launched in Davao City. The launch aims to weave a network that connects lives, nurtures businesses and sustains the bustling energy of the region.

Davao’s most esteemed officials, media luminaries, and bloggers joined hands with Grab Philippines to usher in this transformative era of transportation. The city of Davao was chosen as the stage for this significant debut, symbolizing the growth and the boundless potential of Mindanao’s dynamic landscape.

In her address at the event, Grace Vera Cruz, the Country Head for Grab, emphasized the pivotal role of technology and innovation in driving economic prosperity. She remarked, “Technology and innovation are not just catalysts of economic growth but torch-bearers of future opportunities. Together with your trust and support, we will illuminate the path towards digital literacy, technological advancement, and innovation. Our goal is to ensure that Mindanao does not merely participate but emerges as a key player in the Digital Revolution.”

The launch received the blessing of the Region 11 Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Regional Director, Nonito Llanos III, who expressed his wholehearted support for GrabCar’s launch in Davao. The LTFRB carefully examined 600 applications from individuals eager to become part of the Grab Community in Davao. After rigorous scrutiny, 200 units received approval for release. However, it was made clear that more units could be added if the demand necessitated such an expansion.

Vice Mayor Melchor Quitain also lent his voice to the chorus of approval for GrabCar’s arrival, recognizing the city’s need for enhanced transportation services. With a thriving calendar of events, conventions, and exhibits, Davao requires a reliable and efficient means of mobility, and GrabCar is poised to meet this demand.

A notable feature of GrabCar that distinguishes it is its “Track Your Ride” feature. This safety feature empowers passengers to share their ride details with friends and family, ensuring peace of mind. Furthermore, passengers are periodically asked about their well-being when the ride encounters a stall lasting more than 5 minutes before reaching its destination. For those who prefer a quieter journey, GrabCar offers a “Quiet Ride” option during booking, ensuring a comfortable and personalized experience.

The launch of GrabCar in Davao marks just the initial stride in the direction of a Digital Revolution. With this newfound mobility and convenience, Davaoeños can anticipate a future where traveling is not just better, but also safer and more accessible. The reach of GrabCar’s services extends from Toril and Calinan to Lasang, promising to redefine the way people navigate the vibrant and busy streets of the city. Grab Philippines’ entry into Mindanao heralds a promising future for the region, one that is firmly rooted in progress and innovation.

Grab also launched their mall installation on October 20, 2023 dubbed as “Hulog Ng Langit”, which can be used as a code to get 50% off on Dabawenyos’ first ride with GrabCar.

Nestlé and Department of Education Sign MOA for Nestlé Wellness Campus 2023-2024

DAVAO CITY, PHILIPPINES, August 15, 2023 – Nestlé Philippines and the Department of Education (DepEd) in the Davao Region signed today a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) that solidifies their partnership on nutrition education to teach healthy habits to over a million elementary and high school students in public schools in the region. This will be implemented under the Nestlé Wellness Campus, the nutrition education advocacy program of Nestlé Philippines made possible through the support of DepEd.

The Nestlé Wellness Campus was initially implemented in 2013 in four regions across the Philippines. It has since expanded to seven regions and was adopted by the DepEd Davao Region in School Year 2021-2022. Over the last two years, the program has reached 613,922 elementary students and 400,275 high school students from Davao del Sur, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro and Davao Occidental.

As a leading health and wellness company, Nestlé Philippines launched the Nestlé Wellness Campus to help promote good nutrition and an active lifestyle among Filipino students. “As the Kasambuhay for Good of Filipino families, we believe in the role that education plays in raising healthy and happy children. When they are properly nourished, students become eager to learn and are able to perform well in school. With this MOA, the DepEd Davao Region has provided us the opportunity to continue with our advocacy of instilling healthy habits among our young students,” said Jose Uy III, Senior Vice President and Head of Corporate Affairs of Nestlé Philippines.

To date, the Nestlé Wellness Campus has inspired more than 10.5 million students and 400,000 teachers from over 21,000 public schools to make healthier choices. The program has helped improved the nutrition knowledge and attitudes of elementary and junior high school students across seven regions namely Region 4-A (Calabarzon), Region 5 (Bicol Region), Region 6 (Western Visayas), Region 7 (Central Visayas), Region 10 (Northern Mindanao), Region 11 (Davao Region) and National Capital Region (NCR).

“We are excited to open this new school year with a mindset that will not only focus on our students’ education but also on their overall health and wellness. Through the Nestlé Wellness Campus, our students have a variety of resources that will allow them to practice healthy habits with their teachers and classmates in school, as well as with their parents and siblings at home,” said Dr. Allan Farnazo, CESO III, Regional Director, Department of Education – Region XI.

Promoting 7 Healthy Habits

Data from the Expanded National Nutrition Survey (ENNS) 2018-2019 conducted by the Department of Science and Technology – Food and Nutrition Research Institute (DOST-FNRI) showed that one in four (24.9%) school-aged children is stunted.  While the prevalence of underweight children among this age group significantly decreased from 31.2% in 2015 to 25.5% when the latest ENNS was conducted, the number of overweight children went up from 8.5% to 10.4% during the same period.

To help address this, Nestlé Philippines together with various experts co-created a complete set of modules about the seven Healthy Habits, namely: Choose Nutritious and Varied Options, Manage Portions, Drink Water and Milk, Play Actively, Enjoy Meals Together, Keep Good Hygiene and Care for the Planet. The Nestlé Wellness Campus also prepared a Dancercise titled “Tara! Sama-Sama sa Wellness!” that students can follow during flag ceremony or in Physical Education classes.

Two Facebook Communities, one for teachers and the other for parents, further serve as platforms to discuss nutrition-related topics via webinars, as well as to exchange best practices to inspire other members.

Meanwhile, inter-school and inter-region contests across four categories are held throughout the school year to provide a venue for the students and the school community to showcase their efforts in living out the seven healthy habits. These are the Best Implementing School, Hataw: The School Sayaw Showdown, Superstars, and Sarap-Sustansya Cook-Off. Best performing teachers are awarded as Superstars, while students show-off their cooking skills and knowledge of delicious and nutritious meals in the Sarap-Sustansya Cook-Off.

Since the Davao Region joined the program, Tulalian National High School in Davao Del Norte has already been named Best Implementing School, 1st Runner-Up for two consecutive years. Tagum City National High School, also from the same province, was recognized in the Dancercise category as 1st Runner-Up in School year 2022-2023.

BeansTalk: A Hub for Coffee & Conversation

CRAVING FOR GOOD COFFEE & GREAT CONVERSATIONS? ☕️

I remember when I first started going out to cafes. The coffee scene in Davao wasn’t as big as it is now and the best and coziest cafes always had that air of intimacy and privacy.

The idea, I think, came from the concept of having coffee nooks where people can enjoy great cups of coffee over conversations with friends.

Enter, BeansTalk Café.

BeansTalk, from the name itself, builds exactly on the concept of coffee & conversations. The cafe is located in the bustling heart of the metro but it certainly doesn’t let you feel it. The ambiance of the decor is industrial and laid back. The ambiance welcomes you with the knowledge that:

A. You can definitely work/study/focus here without getting hungry, awkward, or uncomfortable.

B. You and your friends can definitey catch up over their many drinks.

C. If you’re in a group and want to have an exclusive space, you can rent out their mezzanine and enjoy their menu.

Plus, their food is great, too!

We had a chance to try their menu and here’s what I recommend:

– Their pasta dishes, but their Truffle & Bacon Fettuccine is 💣

– Salted Egg Bibingka

– Truffle Pesto Fries 🤤

– Spanish Latte

– Cookies & Cream Frappe

I also like that they serve all day breakfasts. Their Hungarian was yummy, too!

📍 BeansTalk Cafe is located at 911 Aklan St., R Magsaysay Avenue, Davao City

🕐: Daily, from 10 AM to 10 PM

An Afternoon of Happiness: Cacao Appreciation with Davao City Cacao Industry Development Council

One of every Dabawenyo’s point of pride is definitely the city being declared the “Chocolate Capital of the Philippines”. The Davao Region’s superb supply of Cacao has even made President Rodrigo Duterte dub the region the “Cacao Capital of the Philippines”.

I’ve had my own journey of appreciating cacao and what it took to produce it. It was in December 2019 when I first met Ma’am Wit of Gran Verde Farms. We were invited to take part in Ford Philippines’ Media Drive and we ventured into Gran Verde Farms to learn about Cacao Farming.

Cacao Farming is absolutely fascinating and that experience definitely made me respect the art that is cacao farming & chocolate creation. It truly amazes me how chocolate is known as a universal sign of happiness but not a lot of people appreciate the craft and process it took to make it.

I love the fact that the Davao Region is home to the many artists behind some of the leading and best artisan chocolatiers in the country.

So when Ma’am Wit Holganza reached out to me, now as the Davao City Cacao Industry Development Council (DCCIDC)’s project lead for the 3-Day Chocolate Fair Exhibit in Abreeza Ayala Mall, I was pretty excited.

They also invited me to join the Cacao Appreciation event on July 9 and I was more than game to learn how to truly appreciate cacao…. in all its glory.

The event was led by Chef Jill Sandique, the only Filipina who is a certified Level 3 graduate of the International Institute of Chocolate and Cacao Tasting UK. She is also a culinary educator and consultant and brings with her over 25 years of experience having served as a judge in multiple culinary and chocolate competitions. Currently, she is one of the nine World Jury members of the International Chocolate Awards.

It was an absolute privilege and honor to learn from her and what we learned in that single afternoon is something that changed how I enjoyed chocolate.

It’s so weird how that single afternoon, shed light in a lot of flavors I barely noticed before. Here are just some of the things I learned:

  1. Flavors come to you instinctively. Don’t overthink it.
  2. Chocolate flavor can be described in four ways: Herbal/Spicy, Fruity, Dark Sweet, or Vegetal.
  3. People can confuse the texture and temperature as part of the flavor, it is not.

We ended the event enlightened, educated, and most importantly, full of happiness. After all, chocolates do equate to happiness, right?

The Chocolate Exhibit is just one of the council’s activities for Davaoeños to recognize and learn about the beauty of Cacao and how rich the region is for producing some of the best kinds. To learn more about Cacao in the region, follow Davao City Cacao Industry Development Council’s Facebook page here.

Tong San Ribs & Ramen Launches in Davao at the Davao Global Township Weekend Market

Ahh, ribs and ramen. Just the combination of the words alone makes your mouth water.

Imagine being able to have them at the same time?

Last weekend, Davao Global Township opened with a DGT Weekend Market and DGT Festival. The DGT Weekend Market is set to open weekly from Thursdays to Sundays and features some of Davao’s best homegrown businesses.

Of course, festivals like these are also the best way to introduce something new to the market. Ribs & Ramen owner JP Santiago made sure to take advantage of Davao’s growing food scene to do so. The business had previously conquered the taste of Manileños but being a Davaoeño at heart, JP knew he should let try conquering his hometown as well.

And conquer, the business did.

We visited the stall on the second day of the Weekend Market and were both impressed and shocked at the crowd surrounding it. You know the food’s good when there’s an unwavering line or crowd around it.

When you think about ramen, you think about the hearty broth, the chewy and decadent noodles that absorbed flavor, and of course, the slab of meat that comes with each bowl. Davao has its fair share of great ramen. However, there is variety to cater to the city’s diverse palate.

Ramen

Ribs and Ramen’s ramen was created with the Japanese taste in mind. I was able to try the Tantanmen Ramen and while it wasn’t as spicy as I expected it to be, the broth is something I still think about— one week later. The broth was absolutely decadent and is exactly what you’d want your ramen to feel like: a warm hug. The noodles were cooked to perfection; not too hard nor too soggy. They had the right chew that you’d expect from hand-pulled noodles and served as the perfect vehicle for the broth and the meat to come together. One thing that stood out to me was the size of the meat. Where there would be a measly thin slice of pork lay a slab of hefty meat. The meat was so savory and tender, too. (As I’m typing this all down, I am thinking about dropping by again later, LOL.)

Ribs & Ramen’s ramen is supplied from Yummy Tokyo Davao, a Japanese food supplier in Davao. They also sell ramen kits that allow you to enjoy authentic ramen anytime at the comfort of your home.

Now let’s talk about the ribs.

Before I start praising the ribs, I have to note that they actually posted how they sold more fall-off-the-bone ribs here in Davao than they ever did in Cavite. That’s insane! They’d only been here for four days! If that isn’t a testament to how much Davao loves their ribs, here’s my take:

The ribs were very tasty and tender. The meat was clearly marinated well and didn’t really taste as ketchup-y as some. It was juicy, well-seasoned, and while my order that night didn’t exactly fall off the bone, it completely broke apart with just a plastic fork. That’s tender, for you.

By the looks of it, Davao is loving Ribs & Ramen. And they’re not going anywhere! They’ll be opening a branch soon but don’t wait that long!

If you haven’t tried it for yourself, head on over to the Davao Global Township Weekend Market to try Ribs and Ramen Davao, today, June 1, to June 4, 2023.
