Week in Review: Things I’ve Tried This Week

Hello, hello, blogosphere! (Who even says that? Ha, ha.)

It has been quite a hectic and stressful couple of days. Despite my busy schedule, I’ve managed to try a lot of stuff! Here’s a post about all the food I’ve tried the past days that I’ve liked.

  • Good Sip Tapioca

Good Sip Tapioca started only last July and began as an idea that Tapioca was easy to eat and it was a trend. Owner Marisue Johnson mentioned how her family and friends loved tapioca and she decided to try making some. She began selling it and found that other people, loved it, too!

Good Sip Tapioca comes in 4 flavors: Mango, Durian, Coffee & Chocolate. Ma’am Marisue sent 3 flavors for me to try last Friday: Coffee, Mango & Durian. My co-workers also ordered some and they loved it.

Here’s my take on the different flavors:

Mango:

Mango Tapioca has always been seen as a dessert staple somehow. Good Sip’s Mango Tapioca was creamy and flavorful. The mangoes were a mix of sweet and sour and that personally added a bit of a twist to the whole experience. Although it was on the sweet side, the tapioca pearls added texture and flavor to the drink and made it super enjoyable.

Durian:

Durian is something I personally don’t enjoy that much. I find myself a fan of various Durian pastries and candies, though. This drink was the same. The creamy consistency of the Durian Tapioca just highlighted the flavor. The musk of the Durian blended with the sweetness of the cream and made it even better. I find that this variant of Good Sip Tapioca is best for being festive this Kadayawan Season.

Coffee Jelly:

Coffee Jelly was incredibly flavorful. It was the drink I really liked, probably because I needed the caffeine that day. The Coffee Jelly was chewy, the tapioca pearls went great with the drink and the creamy consistency of the drink made the experience incredible. I honestly wish I could’ve ordered more of the coffee jelly.

Overall, Good Sip Tapioca is delicious, enjoyable and a definite must-try. I find that these drinks are building up to be future delicacies in Davao and it’s best that we try these before they get super hyped up! Ha, ha.

What I like about Good Sip is how affordable it is. A 250 mL bottle costs Php 55.00 & a 375 mL bottle costs Php 85.00.

  • Spam Musubi from Musubi Grindz

Spam Musubi has been something I’ve been thinking about making. I’ve made a couple of maki and experimented with sushi-inspired dishes before and spam musubi was something on the list.

When I found Musubi Grindz’ page on Facebook, I was sure I was going to order. However, due to my schedule and ever-changing food cravings, it wasn’t until last July 28 that I decided to push for it. I immediately asked my colleagues if they wanted to order and my original order of 4 variants easily became 12.

They offer different flavors of spam and they all looked enticing! I ordered the Classic Spam and BAEcon Musubi because all other flavors were out.

The verdict:

Classic Spam Musubi was great. The Spam was thick enough to balance out the rice ratio, the teriyaki sauce was the perfect mix of salty and sweet, and each bite was evenly satisfying. The BAEcon Musubi was additionally filling and really satisfying. The bacon was not crisp but provided the flavor you’d look for. Their products are a definite must-try.

I also like their prices. A Classic Spam and Tocino Musubi would cost Php 45.00 and the BAEcon Musubi, Barney’s Special Musubi, Chicken Katsu Musubi, and Classic Spam w/Egg costs Php 65.00.

The owner, April Corinne Layug, is so nice and accommodating! She started Musubi Grindz only in April and was inspired by Musubi in Hawaii. She works there and always found Musubi as a go-to meal. She decided to bring it here and so far, there have been positive reviews about it.

Musubi Grindz will be unfortunately closed for a while because she’s leaving to work again. When she comes back though, make sure to try their products!

  • Kaydee’s Pastries

The last but definitely one of the best things I’ve tried this week was my best friend, Kaydee’s pastries. She’s still trying out baking and she loved making them enough to let us try. She baked brownies, chocolate chip cookies, and carrot muffins.

The brownies were fudgy, chewy and undoubtedly indulgent. The soft and chewy texture of the brownies was highlighted by the chocolate morsels. The chocolate chip cookies were chewy and chocolatey. The carrot muffins were sweet and there were hints of cinnamon and ginger that I just liked. I wish the pastries were something you guys could try, but Kaydee’s still working on the logistics of orders. Regardless, I think it should be included in my list because they were so indulgent! As soon as she starts accepting orders, I’ll post the details!
