A four-year collaboration aims to bring financial literacy programs to thousands of students in Negros Occidental.
When it comes to preparing students for the future, financial literacy is just as important as any other subject. That’s why the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI), through its social development arm BPI Foundation (BPIF), has partnered with Carlos Hilado Memorial State University (CHMSU) in Negros Occidental to bring practical money lessons to the classroom.
The four-year partnership will roll out BPIF’s flagship financial education programs across CHMSU’s four campuses, reaching nearly 40,000 students. The goal? To give young Filipinos the knowledge and confidence to manage money wisely—whether that means budgeting as a student, saving up for life after graduation, or building a financially resilient household.

“BPIF, together with our partners, recognizes the essential role of financial literacy in achieving greater financial inclusion, which is why we continue to do our best to reach more communities,” said Carmina Marquez, BPIF Executive Director.
She added that this collaboration isn’t just about teaching the numbers—it’s about empowering individuals and families in underserved communities with the skills to make sound financial decisions for the long term.
The partnership was made official through a Memorandum of Agreement signing attended by CHMSU and BPIF leaders, including:
- Dr. Norberto Mangulabnan, University President
- Rhoderick Samonte, Director for Internationalization and External Relations
- Dr. Marissa Quezon, Dean of the College of Business Management and Accountancy
- Carmina Marquez, BPIF Executive Director
- Manolo Nava, Senior Program Manager for Financial Education and Arts Management
- Gladys Malapo, Program Manager for Financial Education
Why it Matters
With the rising cost of living and the growing importance of financial literacy, initiatives like this play a key role in shaping a financially responsible next generation. And with CHMSU’s strong academic community, the collaboration is set to make a lasting impact in Negros Occidental.
