Hiyas ng Kadayawan 2022 Media Presentation

Last August 3, 2022, we were able to attend the media presentation of the 2022 Hiyas ng Kadayawan candidates at Acacia Hotel in JP Laurel. The 11 candidates from the different tribes of the Davao Region presented their advocacies and their stories.

Here is a list of the candidates:

  1. Ata- Emylyn Armodia
  2. Bagobo-Klata – Krezyl Joy Ungab
  3. Bagobo-Tagabawa – Leizly May Mendoza
  4. Matigsalug-Dianaruth Campong
  5. Obu-Manuvu- Lady Ray Bangga-an
  6. Iranun- Erika Kandog
  7. Kagan- Alneza Bangasin
  8. Maguindanaon – Jiaria Mae Sakal
  9. Maranao- Beauty Rose Gandarosa
  10. Sama- Sitti Rohilmina Emani
  11. Taosug- Maisara Mendoza

Kadayawan Festival Spokesperson City Councilor Al Ryan Alejandre noted that the Hiyas ng Kadayawan is not a mere beauty pageant but rather a means of showcasing the different culture of the various tribes. During the event, many of the candidates spoke about awareness and education as their advocacy. The candidates also spoke of their cultural identity. The City Councilor also expressed the need for cultural preservation especially today.

The winner of the competition will receive Php 100,000, while the second and third runners-up will receive Php 80,000 and Php 60,000, respectively. The rest of the candidates will still receive PHp 25,000 each.

The Hiyas ng Kadayawan major events include the Cultural Presentation set to happen at Bantawan Ampitheatre in Magsaysay Park on August 6, 2022 at 6:00 PM. The Coronation will be at the RMC Petron gazz Arena on August 17, 2022 at 6:00 PM.
