I remember the first time I played Sims. I was at an uncle’s house for a family gathering and they let me play on their PC. It was the first Sims so I was probably around 7 or 8. I liked the game so much that I spent most of the party on their PC.
Years later, I asked my dad to get me the game and I played Sims 2 the entire summer. Many nights were spent making houses and dressing up my sims. At one point, I spent way too much time on the game that when I checked the clock it was already 5 AM. I had to hurriedly run to my room and go to sleep before my parents could wake up.
That same summer, we were able to play variations of the game. I played it on the PC, Ps2 and PSP. The previous summer before it, my aunt introduced me to Sims Bustin’ Out on the GBA emulator we had on the PC. Needless to say, I was obsessed. I was fascinated by the houses, too.
I vaguely remember my aunt downloading a lot of cool stuff that wasn’t already in-game and was so amazed by it. As soon as I had my own laptop, I made sure to have Sims installed or a variation of it.
It’s been about a year since I got the Sims 4 on my Macbook Air. I got it because Origin gave it for free for about a week last year. I always kind of thought that it was kind of expensive and I was just starting to understand how and which games were good for my Mac.
Flash forward to this pandemic and here I am playing Sims 4 every other week, buying more and more expansion and game packs. At one point, I had to stop myself because I realized how much money I spent on them. When the pandemic broke I couldn’t really spend the money I was earning from my online work so it sort of… ended up being spent partially on groceries and The Sims 4. (Whooooops!)
Before I list down the mods themselves, I want to define what a mod is. A mod is short for modification. Basically, a mod is a certain tweak to the gameplay of a specific video game. CC, on the other hand, is short for custom content. This is a variation of mods. Specifically, they are content for clothes, hairstyles, furniture, skins, eye color, or certain body parts that allow for life-like gameplay.
While the Sims 4’s gameplay is already interesting as it is, there are a couple of things that definitely add more interaction in the game. Here are some of the mods I think improve the gameplay of The Sims 4.
1. MC Command Center or MCCC
The Master Controller Command Center, or MCCC as most simmers call it, is one of the things that all simmers definitely need to have onhand. The MCCC Mod allows for maximum control of almost everything in the game. From your sims’ needs to career options, you’ll basically have a say in how your sims’ lives progress.
2. Slice of Life
Slice of Life is Kawaii Stacie’s very, very, famous mod known for the life-like gameplay it adds to the Sims. First off, one notable thing that it adds is the different moodlets that make sense game-wise. Your sims can finally get drunk, tipsy, and create realistic events.
Aside from this, female sims can now have their periods and are provided with tampons and pads. Teen to Adult sims now are prone to acne and can apply skincare like facial masks and scrubs to avoid it!
In addition, the Slice of Life mod includes Simstagram, a lot of games and apps for your sims’ phones, and even a drama and drunk system that will cause real life reactions for your sims. For example, if your sims are going drinking or making drinks on the bar, they can get tipsy, drunk, and even pass out!
3. Life Tragedies Mod
I’m all for playing the Sims 4 with real life tragedies and etc. In fact, I downloaded the Life Tragedies mod with the Mortem Mod so that my Sims can mourn properly, hold funerals, and etc.
Just like others on this list, the Life Tragedies Mod is pretty graphic and is better-suited for players 18 and over. Your sims can have extreme life tragedies like getting a fatal illness, get kidnapped, get in a car accident, be victims of armed robberies, be bullied, and be a victim of serial killers. Okay, these are all pretty extreme.
With the Life Tragedies Mod and the Mortem Mod, you can create stories and gameplay unlike anything you’ve seen before. In addition, the Mortem Mod removes the Grim Reaper altogether.

4. Little Ms. Sam’s Mods
Next on the list is Little Ms Sam’s Mods that also make the gameplay life-like. Basic mods like her Laundry Upgrade Mod, Ultrasound Scan Mod, Pregnancy Overhaul, The SimDaDating App, and Live In Services mod create events and options that make your stories come to life.
The Ultrasound Scan Mod is a personal favorite because you can use the scans to decorate your baby’s new room. The SimDa Dating app, on the other hand, makes it easier for your sims to meet other sims from different residential worlds. If your sims have the Romance Aspiration, this mod is your bestfriend.
The Live in Services makes it easier for having kids and toddlers(!) in the Sims 4. If your kids need anything, they run to their nannies. Maids can now also clean your house 24/7. The mod also includes live in gardeners.
5. Wicked Whims
Ok, don’t judge! Last on our list is the VERY NSFW and graphic Wicked Whims mod. This mod allows your sims to do it. Like, full-on do it. I won’t dive into the specifics.
Another thing that Wicked Whims adds to the game is periods, STDs, condoms, and etc. If you’re really into making the gameplay life-like, then this is one mod most older simmers have. Check it out here.
So, that’s about it for the mods that make my Sims 4 Gameplay life-like.
