5 Work From Home Opportunities

Man. This year sure is something, huh?

Just when you think the crazy period’s over something happens and you’re just like:

I have so much to say about this Covid-19 pandemic & this quarantine period but I’ll leave that for another entry.

We don’t know when this pandemic will end and one universal concern seems to be the means of earning income while being at home. A lot of people seem to be scared because the world seems to be at a standstill. We’re stuck at home while the global economy just free falls. Everyone’s concerned with how they can sustain themselves and it is valid. These are crazy times.

I, however, am one of the thousands of persons who had been working from home prior to this pandemic and I’m here to tell you that there are job opportunities online that are legitimate and I’ve made a list!

Getting Ready for Online Work

When talking about online or freelance jobs, it’s important to consider what skills you have. Contrary to popular belief, working from home isn’t all easy. You still have to pull your weight and prove that you’re a great candidate.

It may seem intimidating but you have to remember: it’s 2020; everything is on the internet. If you can youtube how to change filters on Instagram or how to dry your soaked iPhone, trust that you can find videos on skills, too!

In fact, websites like Skillshare, Masterclass, and even the fairly recent LinkedIn Learning offer a multitude of courses on various topics that can help you establish your online career. (If you click on the link to skillshare, you’ll get my gift of 2 months worth of free classes!!)

Another thing to remember is to polish your resumé, your portfolio (if you have one), and your cover letters. It’s imperative that you have these on-hand for any job opportunities that you might like.

5 Online Jobs For Different People

Freelance/Digital Nomads

Ah, yes. The first job opportunity is one we’re all familiar with because it’s one of the more common ones. The freelancers are people who work online using their skills for people. Here are a couple of websites that let you earn as freelancers:

Onlinejobs.ph

First on the list is the one I personally favor. This is where I found most of my online work. I used to freelance write as a college student and this is where I found my current job!

Onlinejobs.ph is a great website for beginner freelancers because it’s fairly easy to navigate. There’s also a set of tasks for you to do prior to being able to apply for specific job. One feature I particularly like from this website is their “ID Proof”. This feature lets you know that who you’re talking to is really who they say they are; tldr: legitimate. This goes for both employees and employers so you know which job listing you should apply for. I personally don’t apply to jobs that have an ID Proof below 50.

I like looking for job listings on Onlinejobs.ph because the listings are varied. There are 13 categories and a ton more subcategories are available for specificity. Here’s how it works.

Fiverr

Fiverr is an interesting website. For one, it advertises basically doing anything under the sun for $5.00. Yup, basically everything. You can make songs, write essays, sing songs, dance, or even cater to specific requests for a certain amount.

You can also purchase services, as well. This is pretty much one of the easiest things to do to earn during this quarantine, especially if you’re bored and confident. You can probably use some of those TikTok skills here.

Arts & Crafts

200-2

This category is for those of us who are more artistically inclined. If you know how to layout, sketch, design graphics or logos, this category’s for you.

Red Bubble

Red Bubble is a great website for independent artists to sell their work online. If you’re a digital artist, Red Bubble offers a ton of opportunities to sell your content. They specialize in stickers and shirts. Here’s how to do it.

Etsy

Etsy is probably one of the most common avenues to sell art & crafts online. It may be a little difficult for shipping though, so just put this on the “maybe” pile.

Photography

200-3

Now if you’re skilled in photography or looking to build your portfolio online, this is the category for you. Selling stock photos are one of the best ways to earn some cash.

Shutterstock

Shutterstock is a great website to earn from. They have a great global community and take care of their contributors. This increases your exposure and you might just learn a couple more skills.

Getty Images & iStock

Getty Images is another company worth checking out. You can apply as a contributor and once you’re accepted, you get to earn royalties when people use your stock photos! Cool!

Tutoring

200-4

Online teaching and tutoring is a quickly rising enterprise today. There are a ton of job opportunities for those of us who are more academically inclined– and not all of them are opportunities to teach English!

Chegg Tutors

Chegg Tutors is a perfect example that not all tutoring jobs online revolve around teaching English. You can tutor students from around the globe on various topics from Science to Math to Literature and World History.

Affliate/ Digital Marketing Ads

If you’re a youtuber, have a significant amount of Instagram followers, or blog, you can try these:

Amazon Affiliates

If you help advertise Amazon products on your blog or youtube, you can earn up to 10% in advertising fees. It’s fairly easy because basically everything IS on Amazon. So, for example, you’re currently doing a favorites video or blog post, you can just link it to Amazon and ta-da! You earn money for each click on the link! (Lazada also has an affiliate program but it’s currently not accepting affiliates.)

Google Adsense

Google Adsense is a program that lets Google use your website/youtube for targeted ads. This is why when you look at videos on youtube you get recurring ads. One great thing about Adsense is it chooses the highest paying ad for your site, making sure you really earn.

Final Thoughts

Overall, there are a ton of job opportunities online and this is the best time to utilise them. It’s important to keep ourselves busy during this quarantine season and if you earn a buck while you’re doing it, why not, right?

This pandemic is leaving the world at a standstill but it doesn’t have to mean that our lives are at a standstill, too. Let’s use the time to help each other get on our feet and try to see the positive side in all this. It’s one thing to be in a world that’s super messed up and another to see fellow human beings being selfish.

I hope this blog post helps creatives & job-seeking people out there! Let’s all hang in there, friends!
