Big Bad Wolf Book Sale Tips & Haul

The Big Bad Wolf Booksale has proven itself to be an experience. Davaoeños welcomed the Big Bad Wolf with open arms… and open wallets. The sheer amount of people posting their incredible hauls is proof enough that Davaoeños are bookworms.

The world’s biggest booksale officialy opens today at The Tent at Azuela Cove. It will end on December 2, 2019. It is open to everyone—- no ticket is needed for entry and is open for 24 hours.

Here are a few tips I picked up after spending the whole day at the BBWBS:

Bring a big bag. It is likely that you’ll find a ton of books to your liking. The BBWBS has the best non-fiction collection I have ever seen. If you’re into reading about the various sciences, they probably have it. Art, photography, fashion, and music are only some of the topics people can enjoy at the BBWBS. That being said, buying a lot of books is pretty much expected. With 50-90% off, it’s all considered to be pretty great deals. After my experience last year, I decided to bring a trolley of my own. It sounds & even looks crazy but hey, I’m not the one with an aching back or a ripped plastic bag.
Set a budget... and stick to it! Although it may seem like a total free-for-all, you should still set boundaries. Last year, I budgeted about Php 3,000 for my haul and spent 5,000.00 instead. It can seem pretty tempting once you’re there. Remind yourself what your goal is. Are you buying to read? To collect? To give on Christmas? Decide from there. This year, I decided to stick to my budget of 3,500.00 & I did it!
Plan your day. Yes, plan the day! You can’t just go to the sale and go crazy! Decide when you want to arrive, whether or not you’ll be eating ahead or before, who you want to bring. As a bookworm, it’s difficult to have a companion who’ll rush you while you explore book heaven!

  • Eat ahead. Or at least snack ahead. Okay, I know this sounds crazy but the booksale CAN get overwhelming! The lines to the cashier CAN get pretty long… which is why you need to be prepared and not get hungry in the middle of it. Remember that you ARE NOT ALLOWED TO BRING FOOD & DRINK at the sale.

  • Visit Azuela Cove’s Food Bazaar after! 27 purveyors are ready to serve you great meals after your crazy shopping day.

  • Wear comfortable clothes. If you’re a bookworm like me, you will get the urge to run around the sale in fascination. Wear comfortable clothes because it is likely that you’ll be spending about 2-3 hours wandering around and collecting books. You wouldn’t want to pull a Heart Evangelista and wear heels to the event. Your poor feet would ache the first 30 minutes!

  • Always return books where you got them. Remember: it’s a booksale, not an ukay-ukay. People can get overwhelmed but wouldn’t you be disappointed to find a book you want in a totally different section? All the books in the sale are arranged by genre to make it easier for readers to find their preference.

  • Make sure to watch your trolley! Sometimes jn the excitement of everything, we tend to just drop everything and proceed. During the sale, try to put your trolleys where it doesn’t hinder the pathway or block any readers from browsing the books. Courtesy, always! 💕

  • Pick a good booksale buddy. I took my sister, Gillian, to the sale with me. It’s great that we both share the love for the same things & it made things easier when choosing books. We trusted each other’s judgment and whatever books we got were ones we could share.

Overall, the Big Bad Wolf Book sale is something that every Davaoeño, if not everyone should experience. I personally have a love for books because they can take you anywhere, they teach you lessons and culture and knowledge that even experience couldn’t bring. Books are the best way to get to know pieces of the world. They should be experienced, lived and treasured, especially by the generation today.
