Davao Food Crawl: Hanoi Vietnamese Cuisine

The second weekend of the Davao Food Crawl was a busy one. As mentioned in my previous post, we had four places to visit and each of the places had their own cuisine. One of the things I loved about The Davao Food Crawl was the adventure that came with each meal. Davao has definitely become a food hub of some sort in a sense that every nook and cranny of this bustling city has proven to have a little piece of the rest of the world in the form of cuisine.

That afternoon, we journeyed to Vietnam through the restaurant Hanoi. Hanoi Vietnamese Cuisine is located at Abreeza Ayala Mall, J.P. Laurel in Davao City.

We were served with three dishes and one drink. The three dishes were the following:  Vietnamese Starter Platter, Pho Tai, and the Suon Heo Nuong. I honestly didn’t know how much I missed out on Vietnamese Food till I tried their ribs.

The Suon Heo Nuong is their grilled pork spareribs marinated in herbs and spices and it’s served with Hanoi’s special sauce. I especially liked their ribs because of how tender it was. The meat was juicy and tasty; perfect for the many greens in the Vietnamese Starter Platter.

The Vietnamese Starter Platter is described as a bountiful feast of Hanoi’s signature spring rolls Bahn Cuon, Ga Nuong Xa, Goi Cuon and Cha Nuong. Bahn Cuon is a rice paper roll filled with pork, mushrooms, vegetables, garnished with deep fried onions and chopped lettuce. Goi Cuon are fresh spring rolls filled with shrimp, porn, herbs and vegetables. I couldn’t have any of these because my allergies were acting out. I’m pretty sure they’re delicious, though! My friends finished most of it. The Cha Nuong is the only one I tried because of the pork barbeque.

They also served us with their Pho Tai. The Pho Tai consists of thinly sliced beef, onions, coriander and banh pho noodles in a beef broth. It was delicious. I loved how the banh pho noodles tasted like and enjoyed the rich broth, as well. I recommend trying this dish out if you’re trying to dip your toes into the cuisine.

Overall, the dishes served were great. I like the Starter Platter and the Suon Heo Nuong. The Starter Platter is a great way to try Vietnamese dishes and the volume of the food is definitely for a group. The Pho Tai was awesome and would be something I’d come back for.
