BGC Hostel and Dorm

BGC Hostel and Dorm

A couple of weeks ago, my friends and I needed a place in Manila to crash for the night. I immediately thought about boutique hostels I saw on my Facebook feed a while back. After an hour or two of figuring out what the name was, I found BGC Hostel & Dorm on the internet.

I was so attracted to the cute interior! I just brought it up with my friends and didn’t even try to book it until our last day in Baguio, hours before we had to check in.

So, with the help of a friend (because the internet was kind of slow), I booked us a room for three. I gave my details and paid the 650— or so I thought.

The next night, after a grueling 2 hours spent in EDSA traffic, I was surprised to notice that my bank statement showed that I was not 1,950 pesos (there were 3 of us) poorer. Thinking that the booking failed or my bank details were in danger, I told my friend to ask the counter. It turns out that they only kept the details in case we were a no-show.

Another thing that’s sayang is I found that their walk-in clients were charged 499/night. Had we been less organized and more spur-of-the-moment people, we could have saved 150 pesos. Weird.

Anyway, back to the hostel:

The place was, as advertised, cute and hip. There’s a common area to hangout, there’s also an area for working/studying. They have board games and darts for people who want to stay in.

The rooms were nice, too. I’d never been to a hostel like this so everything was new to me. They have curtains around the bed and a lamp in case you need to do reading. They also provide lockers for guests’ valuables. The bathrooms had hot & cold showers and the toilet was well-maintained.

Overall, for 499 a night (if you walk-in, that is), BGC hostel is a good place to stay in. It also doesn’t hurt that it’s near a lot of places. It’s a 30-minute walk, 15-minute grab ride (if walang traffic ha!) to Taguig. (I spent around 89 pesos for a regular grab ride and 178 kapag surge). It’s location is also near the highway lang so it’s pretty easy to get a cab or get a grab/uber.

If you’re in Makati and need a budget place to crash, check out BGC Hostel. ✌🏻
